There were a lot of reviews on the Equus 3160 OBD2 code scanner,  and the majority were overwhelmingly positive.  We found that many people liked the the  all-in-one backlit screen and LED display.  This tool is often used in dimly lit areas like a garage or a driveway at night.  One car owner said “I’m almost 60 and had no problem using this tool, and the roughly two and a half inch screen was easily ready by my old eyes”.  Others liked On-Screen Diagnostic Trouble Code(DTC’s) descriptions saying “…then I started with my first OBDII and it was very good (had to look the code description up in a book).   Now with the CAN OBDII and error code description on-screen it is a must have for anyone”.   Many customers liked the fact that it had an ABS reader built in, so you don’t have to buy a separate tool. This use to be the case. “This model with the ABS is a nice little touch also”.  Many people found that it worked on a variety of cars, unlike a lot of other scan tools.  They liked the price saying “What I found was the Equus 3160 was capable of handling more than any other scanner on the market in the $400 price range – only for under $200”. We also found that many people are doing the repairs themselves “I have an extensive background in electronics, and a long past history in racing I haven’t pursued in many years. I do, however, have a fully equipped garage – so repairs to my vehicles, by myself, are not out of the question. My 3160 has made a nice addition that will see infrequent use as needed. I have no doubt it will be well appreciated in my usage, or by many of those working in the field”.   The positive reviews go on and on, but there were some negative ones.

Many people mentioned that the Equus 3160, ships with a cord(from scanner tool to pc) which is a serial port connection for the PC.  And now a lot of PC’s don’t use these inputs, they only have USB connectors.  So if you plan on using this with your PC, and you don’t have a serial port, you should purchase a serial to USB cable, which is about ten dollars.  Click Here to check out the cable at a good price.  One other thing that kept coming up was ABS coverage.  Many did not check to see if there vehicle was listed in the ABS coverage before buying and were disappointed to find there vehicle wasn’t covered.  Click Here to check if  your vehicle is covered for ABS.

At the end of the day, if you want a OBD2 scanner that has all the features you may need, this is a full featured quality scanner.
