Best OBD2 – Equus 3130 Innova OBD2 Diagnostic Code Scanner with Live, Record and Playback Data Capability for OBDII Vehicles

Description:   This device scans your vehicle, and allows you to freeze-frame live timing and pinpoint your vehicle’s problem. Instead of having to recreate a scenario over and over again, you can now playback the timing to scrutinize all the data and make a diagnosis. The Equus Innova 3130 OBD2 Code scanner can retrieve diagnostic codes in all OBD II (1996 and newer). It has an all-in-one screen display and LED display for quick OBD I/M emissions check, so you’ll know fairly easily if you’re ready to pass inspection.  The 3130 can display on-screen DTC definitions and user interfaces in English, Spanish, or French, and the trilingual language selection is accessed via menu command. This device also stores diagnostic codes in an easy to access memory for off-car review.  It also has Internet connectivity and the ability to interface with a PC. With the included cables and software you can connect the scanner to your computer to generate, print, and save detailed diagnostic reports, and even update the 3130 via the Internet.

The 3130 links to all OBD II protocols including CAN (Controller Area Network). The tool captures and displays freeze frame data that will help you pinpoint and troubleshoot. This device is equipped to retrieve the following OBD II diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs): Generic Codes (P0, P2, P3, and U0) and Manufacturer Specific Codes (P1, P3, and U1). In addition, the tool provides live data (view, record, and playback live PCM data streams), bi-directional testing, vehicle ID capture, and O2 sensor results.

The reviews for the Equus 3130 Innova Diagnostic Code Scanner, like its sister products are heavily positive.  Many people said they thought it was very fast when retrieving codes.  And they mentioned it was easy to use and liked how it was small and portable.  Also some said that they liked the included software, which is not usually the case with OBD2 scanners.  “This software also allows each of the recorded files to be uploaded and graphed on your computer”.  Many also said they liked the live data capture which is not usually included on a scan tool in this price range. “Live data capture has worked well and I used it to analyze what’s going on with the car in the comfort of my office using the included OBD-PCLink software”.  The all-in-one screen was also very popular because they didn’t have to fish through menus to find the main function readings.  A lot of reviews liked how it is upgradable on the internet and they felt it had a low price for the features it has compared to other OBD2 scanners in the same price range.

Now for the less favorable reviews.  Like the 3100 and the 3160 there  were not many negative reviews.  Many customers mentioned that they wished it came with an ABS (Anti Lock Brakes) reader.  This is available as an upgrade.  Others mentioned the need to buy an (RS-232 to USB Cable) in order to connect to there PC because they only had USB ports on there computer.  These cables are about ten dollars.  Click Here to check one out.

All in all the Equus 3130 is a good quality scanner for a car owner or mechanic.  It has everything you could need in a code scanner except ABS coverage.  If you really like this OBD2 scanner but want ABS coverage we recommend the Equus 3160. We recommend the 3130 for car owners who want to know whats wrong before going to the shop, do it yourself car owners, and for general shop diagnosis.
